Check your fridge or pantry. Pepsico is recalling tens of thousands of bottles of its Lipton tea due to a packaging error resulting in an undeclared ingredient, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The brand’s Green Tea Citrus flavor, which contains 25 grams of sugar per bottle, was mistakenly packaged in bottles labeled as Diet Green Tea Mixed Berry, which is supposed to be sugar-free. The outer packaging around the 12-packs reads "Lipton Green Tea Citrus," but the labels on the individual 16.9-ounce bottles read "Lipton Diet Green Tea Mixed Berry," triggering the recall because the labeling does not list the correct product or its sugar content. The recalled green tea has a sell-by date of "DEC 01 25" and the code "HHMM DW 08035." A total of 2,854 cases are being recalled with 2-12 pack units equalling a case. The FDA has classified the recall as Class II, as the labeling error poses a health risk for people with diabetes and "may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote." Although the FDA did not provide specific instructions, you should dispose of the beverages or return them to the place of purchase, especially if you or anyone in your household has diabetes or is concerned about sugar intake.
