Food To Live of Brooklyn, New York, is recalling its Organic Moringa Leaf Powder and Organic Supergreens Powder Mix due to possible Salmonella contamination, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The recalled products were distributed nationwide through retail and wholesale channels, and were sold directly from Food To Live’s website. They were also available on third-party e-commerce platforms, including Amazon, Walmart, Target, Etsy, and eBay. In addition, bulk quantities were sold to food manufacturers and other businesses through Food To Live's wholesale division. Both products were packaged in plastic stand-up pouches of various sizes, ranging from 8 ounces to 44 pounds, with a clear window displaying the powder. Only packages with lot codes starting with "SO-69006" and ending with "SO-72558" (printed directly on the back of the bag) are affected. No other Food To Live products and lots are involved in this recall. The powders were sold in the following package sizes: Organic Moringa Leaf Powder: 8-ounce and 1-, 2-, 4-, 8-, 16-, and 44-pound bagsOrganic Supergreens Powder Mix: 8 ounce and 1-, 1.5-, 3-, 6-, and 12-pound bags The products were manufactured using a single lot of recalled organic moringa leaf powder from Vallon Farmdirect PVT LTD of Johdpur, India. The organic moringa powder found in the products has been linked to an outbreak of salmonellosis, according to the FDA. Multiple illnesses have been reported across several states, including Florida, Kansas, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia, with three hospitalizations. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, an infection can result in the organism entering the bloodstream and causing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis. Symptoms typically occur within 12 to 72 hours after consuming food contaminated with Salmonella and last four to seven days. Food To Live has suspended production and distribution of its moringa powder products. If you purchased Food To Live's Organic Moringa Powder or Organic Supergreens Powder Mix, do not consume it.
