Close Credit: Liudmila Zavialova / Getty Images The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced a recall on both fresh and frozen sausage links. The recall affects 17,720 pounds of DJ's Boudain brand sausages due to possible contamination of foreign materials, specifically pieces of a pen. The recall was initiated after the company received a complaint from a consumer who found a piece of pen while consuming the product. There has been one oral injury associated with the consumption of the recalled sausage, according to FSIS. Broccoli Recall Considered Class I Due to 'Deadly' Listeria Risk, FDA Warns The items included in the recall were produced on January 23, 2025 and have a sell-by date of March 9, 2025 and establishment number "EST. 13246" printed on the packaging. The products were shipped to distributors, restaurants, and retail locations in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. A complete list of the products can be found here. FSIS is concerned that consumers and retailers still have the recalled products in their refrigerators or freezers. If you still have the recalled items, throw them away or return them to the place of purchase. If you have concerns about a potential injury following the consumption of the sausage links, contact a healthcare provider. Consumers with questions about the recall can contact Jonathan Wallace, vice president of operations at DJ’s Boudain, LLC by calling 409-842-0558 (extension 111) or emailing [email protected].
