Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, Inc. is recalling a limited number of its Häagen-Dazs Chocolate Dark Chocolate Mini Bars because they may contain an undeclared wheat allergen, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The affected Häagen-Dazs Chocolate Dark Chocolate Mini Bars were sold in 6-count packages with the batch code LLA519501 and a best-by date of January 31, 2027. They were shipped to Kroger stores in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming and to Giant Eagle stores in Indiana, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. While no illnesses or injuries related to this recall have been reported so far, the FDA warns that individuals with a wheat allergy or severe sensitivity run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the ice cream bars. Symptoms include swelling, itching, or irritation of the mouth or throat; hives, itchy rash, or swelling of the skin; nasal congestion; headache; trouble breathing; cramps, nausea, or vomiting; diarrhea; and in severe cases, anaphylaxis. In the FDA notice, Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream states that there may have been an error at the beginning of a production run, resulting in products containing wheat being used in the ice cream bars. The presence of wheat is not listed on the labels. If you or anyone in your household has a wheat allergy or sensitivity, do not consume the ice cream. Instead, throw the bars away or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
