Ikea Just Debuted Almost 100 New Pieces of Modern, Timeless Furniture The brand revisits one of its most beloved collections—shop our favorites here. Credit: Ikea Decades ago—40 years, to be exact—IKEA debuted what would become one of its most popular, best-selling furniture collections: Stockholm. Furniture trends and news cycles have come and gone, but Stockholm has managed to weather the passage of time with its signature Scandinavian modern sensibility—at an affordable price. Long-time fans of the collection are in for a treat now, as IKEA recently announced it's adding almost 100 new products to Stockholm for its 40th birthday. Shop Ikea's New Collection Loveseat, $1299 Pendant Lamp, $150 Cabinet With Sliding Doors, $449 Table Lamp, $70 Bowl, $40 Pouffe, $199 Armchair, $349 The new collection draws on Ikea's roots as a Swedish design company, particularly as it relates to the city of Stockholm and the nature that surrounds it. Stockholm itself is built on islands, with dense nearby forests that further tether it to the natural world. These themes are present in the materials, including Swedish pine and the soothing color palette of blues, greens, and browns. Since it's such a personal collection—and in many ways, a reflection of home—the individual pieces all have their own narratives and stories that draw upon the lived experience of Stockholm and its native designers. In many ways, it's a full-circle moment for the brand and a return to the sort of clean, elegant modernism that it does best. Loveseat Credit: IKEA $1,299 at Ikea Ikea's new collection revolves around two new sofa designs, including this new piece by Swedish designer Ola Wihlborg. A modular design, you can add middle pieces to extend the sofa and make it even larger. The inspiration came from a previous sofa that the designer owned, which required too much upkeep. "It had 10 or 12 cushions that you had to fluff every evening and make them in order," he tells decorvow. "That’s quite tricky when you have a family and a dog." His new piece, by comparison, offers a much more low-maintenance alternative. Pendant Lamp Credit: Ikea Glass chandeliers and pendant lights can often cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars, which makes the price point on Ikea's latest edition a real steal. Designed by Nike Karlsson, the piece arrives flat packed, so it's not a hassle to ship or fit through a door—the individual glass tubes are then assembled by hand. Ikea even includes cotton gloves in the packaging, to limit grease stains and fingerprints. $150 at Ikea Cabinet With Sliding Doors Credit: Ikea You can't beat the classics. This new design was based on a cabinet that was previously designed for the Stockholm collection and became very popular and sought-after. Its latest incarnation is made with a beautiful rattan, further embracing the natural materials and organic finishes that were so integral to Ikea's overall approach. $449 at Ikea Table Lamp Credit: Ikea This whimsical, botanical print is the brainchild of Paulin Machado, a long-time Ikea collaborator and textile designer. Machado lives in the countryside, in an old windmill, so many of her motifs are inspired by nature—the perfect reference for the latest Stockholm collection. The resulting table lamp makes a subtle, refined statement. Looking to add even more to cart?
