The desire to slow down and stop scrolling continues to be reflected in people's home design choices and habits—as Etsy found in its third annual Spring/Summer Trend Guide, called "The Etsy Trend Edit."
The report provides a deep dive into the aesthetics and themes that will be influencing shoppers in the upcoming seasons. The trends, which are based on search and sales data from the last three months as compared to the same time last year, show a continuing shift toward styles that feel lived-in and personal.
From mahjong sets to handwritten notes and journaling, shoppers are looking to reconnect with analog rituals and aesthetics this upcoming spring and summer. Here are the top five home design and lifestyle trends to watch out for, according to Etsy.
Whimsical Hobbies
According to the report, Etsy shoppers are turning to hobbies that spark delight, with beginner needlepoint kits up 175 percent and mahjong sets up 178 percent on the online marketplace.
Journaling
As screens dominate our lives, analog rituals are making a comeback. Memory journals, journal charms, and personalized keepsakes are transforming the idea of scrapbooking, Etsy reports. In fact, searches for "traveler journal" have doubled, and interest in memory journals is up 189 percent. Leather journal covers and journal charms rose 126 percent and 479 percent (among Gen Z), respectively.
At-Home Exhibits
With “nestalgia”—the trend of decorating using childhood mementos—popular among millennials and Gen Z, renters and homeowners alike are turning their spaces into curated showcases—with or without the kiddie collectibles. With wall art décor up 110 percent, shoppers are hanging mirrors, gallery prints, and eclectic frame sets as a way to curate and personalize their homes. According to the report, searches for wall décor mirrors are up 50 percent; gallery prints, 80 percent; and abstract art, 38 percent.

Gothic Romance
Inspired by dark romance stories, shoppers are embracing moody Victorian drama in their homes—everything from Gothic-esque homewares like ornate silver trays to vintage barware. For example, Etsy found that searches for vintage barware jumped a whopping 1,550 percent.
Soft Stitch Era
Handworked detail is the new luxury, with Gen Z pushing back on fast fashion and choosing pieces made by hand, according to Etsy. Whether they're learning to crochet themselves or buying from someone who did, shoppers are gravitating toward home décor items such as crocheted drink coasters and embroidered hand towels.
