Check your freezer. Straus Family Creamery is recalling select flavors and sizes of its organic ice cream due to the potential presence of metal foreign material, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The ice cream comes in a paper container with a seal and lid in quart and pint sizes. It was distributed to retailers in 17 states including Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin, and was on shelves beginning May 4.
The recall includes the following specific flavors and sizes of Straus Family Creamery Organic Super Premium Ice Cream:
- Ice Cream Vanilla Bean, Pint: Best-By Date 23-Dec-2026 with UPC 7-84830-10030-6 and 28-Dec-2026 with UPC 7-84830-10030-6
- Ice Cream Strawberry, Quart: Best-By Date 24-Dec-2026, UPC 7-84830-10097-9
- Ice Cream Strawberry, Pint: Best-By Date 25-Dec-2026, UPC 7-84830-10095-5
- Ice Cream Cookie Dough, Pint: Best-By Date 26-Dec-2026, UPC 7-84830-10104-4
- Ice Cream Dutch Chocolate, Quart: Best-By Date 27-Dec-2026, UPC 7-84830-10012-2
- Ice Cream Mint Chip, Pint: Best-By Date 30-Dec-2026, UPC 7-84830-10050-4

No injuries have been reported so far. According to the Straus Family Creamery release, the recall is being issued "out of an abundance of caution" and the company has "implemented appropriate corrective actions."
If you purchased any of the recalled ice cream, do not eat it, and throw it away. According to the FDA notice, consumers should not return it to the place of purchase. Instead, in order to receive a voucher to redeem for a replacement product at your local retailer, visit the company's recall page to fill out the reimbursement form. You will be required to submit a photo of the packaging and the best-by date.
