Key Points

  • A nationwide recall was issued for Moonlight and Kroger peaches after listeria was detected in the packing facility.
  • The affected peaches were sold nationwide from mid-September to late October under several brand names and lot codes.
  • Consumers should throw away any recalled peaches immediately, as listeria can cause severe illness, especially in high-risk groups.

Moonlight Companies is recalling California-grown yellow and white peaches due to potential contamination with listeria, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The recalled peaches were sold at retail stores nationwide between September 16 and October 29, either as individual pieces of fruit bearing PLU stickers or as multi-packs. This recall does not include packages or PLU stickers with the words “Washington” and/or “Organic.”

Listeria was found in the packing facility environment, triggering the recall. So far, no illnesses have been reported.

Symptoms of listeria infection vary depending on severity, but may include vomiting, muscle aches, fever, headaches, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. Symptoms can last from one to three days.

The FDA also warns that listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, older adults, and others with weakened immune systems, as well as miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women. If you experience any of these symptoms, seek medical attention immediately.

If you purchased any of the peaches, do not consume them and throw them away. For questions, contact 855-215-5017, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST.
