The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced a recall of ready-to-eat chicken fettuccine Alfredo that is potentially linked to a deadly outbreak of listeria. The recalled chicken fettuccine Alfredo was produced by FreshRealm, with locations in Indianapolis, Ind., San Clemente, Calif., and Montezuma, Ga. As of June 17, 2025, FSIS has reported three associated deaths and one fetal loss related to this outbreak. Additionally, 17 illnesses have been reported across 13 states from August 2024 to May 2025. As a precaution, the company is voluntarily recalling Home Chef and Marketside products sold at Kroger and Walmart locations nationwide, all produced before June 17, 2025. The affected products have the USDA mark of inspection on their label, with establishment numbers "EST. P-50784," "EST. P-47770,” or “EST. P-47718” printed on the packaging side. Product details are as follows: 32.8-oz. tray packages containing “MARKETSIDE GRILLED CHICKEN ALFREDO WITH FETTUCCINE Tender Pasta with Creamy Alfredo Sauce, White Meat Chicken and Shaved Parmesan Cheese” with a best-by date of 06/27/25 or prior.12.3 oz. tray packages containing “MARKETSIDE GRILLED CHICKEN ALFREDO WITH FETTUCCINE Tender Pasta with Creamy Alfredo Sauce, White Meat Chicken, Broccoli and Shaved Parmesan Cheese” with a best-by date of 06/26/25 or prior.12.5 oz. tray packages containing “HOME CHEF Heat & Eat Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo with pasta, grilled white meat chicken, and Parmesan cheese" with a best-by date of 06/19/25 or prior. Consuming food contaminated with listeria can lead to listeriosis, an infection that primarily impacts older adults with weakened immune systems, pregnant women, and newborns, according to the FSIS. Listeria may cause symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, convulsions, and diarrhea. Consumers who experience any of these symptoms should seek immediate medical attention. The FSIS says some of the recalled products might be in consumers' refrigerators or freezers. Those who purchased the recalled products are advised to dispose of them immediately or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.
