If you have purchased eggs, check your refrigerator as soon as possible. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recalled large brown cage-free eggs due to the potential for contamination with Salmonella.

The recalled eggs are from Country Eggs, LLC, based in Lucerne Valley, California. They were distributed to grocery stores and food service distributors in California and Nevada between June 16 and July 9. The CDC notes that there have been 95 illnesses across 14 states.

The product was sold in 12-count egg cartons, packaged individually with the following brand names and details:

  • Brand name: Nagatoshi Produce; sell by date: 7/1/25 through 9/18/25; code: CA 7695
  • Brand name: Misuho; sell by date: 7/1/25 through 9/18/25; code: CA 7695
  • Brand name: Nijiya Markets; sell by date: 7/1/25 through 9/18/25; code: CA 7695

For foodservice distribution, the affected product was packaged in bulk, bearing the following information:

  • Brand name: Country Eggs Large Brown Sunshine Yolks; sell by date: 7/1/25 - 9/18/25
  • Brand name: Country Eggs Large Brown Omega-3 Golden Yolks; sell by date: 7/1/25 - 9/18/25

According to the CDC, the recalled product has been linked to 95 Salmonella illness cases, including 18 hospitalizations, across 14 states. Public health officials are continuing to investigate the multistate outbreak of Salmonella linked to the eggs.

Salmonella is a group of bacteria that can cause a gastrointestinal illness known as salmonellosis, according to the FDA. Individuals infected with Salmonella may start to show symptoms 12 to 72 hours after exposure to the bacteria. Common symptoms of Salmonella infection include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. 

Consumers who have purchased any of the affected products are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund or discard them immediately.
