  • An expanding recall linked to powdered milk now includes several popcorn products containing white cheddar seasoning that may be contaminated with Salmonella.
  • The newly recalled items are a Williams Sonoma Popcorn Sampler Gift Box, a Fireworks Popcorn Poppings & Toppings gift set, and Fireworks White Cheddar Seasoning, each with specific lot codes listed on the packaging.
  • No illnesses have been reported, but consumers should not eat the affected products and should return them for a refund.

An ongoing recall linked to powdered milk has expanded again, with the addition of popcorn products, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The recall currently includes trail mixes sold under various brand names, Ghirardelli beverage mixes, Zapp’s and Dirty brand potato chips, and frozen pizzas sold at Aldi and Walmart. The most recent item involves popcorn products with white cheddar seasoning containing the recalled powdered milk.

Per the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Jonco Industries, Inc. of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is recalling the following products because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.

  • Williams Sonoma–branded Popcorn Sampler Gift Box with lot code 088594-2-1
  • Fireworks Popcorn Poppings & Toppings gift set, sold at West Allis Cheese and Sausage, with lot code 088594-5-1
  • Fireworks White Cheddar Seasoning, 1.6-ounce jars, sold at West Allis Cheese and Sausage, with lot code 088594-7-1

The lot codes are printed on the product packaging.

The recall was initiated after Jonco Industries was notified by its seasoning supplier, JCB Flavors, of a potential Salmonella concern associated with the milk powder ingredient supplied by California Dairies, Inc., which was used in the production of the affected products.

So far, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the powdered milk recall. According to the FDA, Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons often experience symptoms such as a fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infections can result in more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis.

If you purchased any of these products, do not consume them. Instead, return them to the place of purchase for a refund. Individuals with questions may contact Jonco Industries at 414-449-2000 during normal business hours.
