  • Trader Joe’s Vegetable Fried Rice is being recalled after glass fragments were found in the product, affecting over 400,000 cases (about 9.8 million pounds). The fragments range from 1 to 3 centimeters long and pose serious safety risks if consumed.
  • The recalled products have best-by dates from February 28 to November 19 and UPC 00521482, and were distributed across 43 states. The FDA classified the recall as Class II, meaning the product could cause temporary or medically reversible health issues.
  • Consumers are advised not to eat the product and should either discard it or return it for a full refund. The recall follows a broader precautionary removal of several frozen Trader Joe’s items linked to earlier Ajinomoto Foods recalls.

Check your freezer. More Trader Joe’s frozen products are being recalled due to the presence of "foreign objects," according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Over 400,000 cases (approximately 9.8 million pounds) of Trader Joe's Vegetable Fried Rice, which is produced by Ajinomoto Foods North America Inc., are affected. The products were found to contain glass fragments varying in size from 1 to 3 centimeters long and 2 to 4 millimeters wide.

Earlier this month, out of "an abundance of caution," Trader Joe's removed some frozen food products from its shelves, including the vegetable fried rice, in response to Ajinomoto Foods' initial February recall of frozen not-ready-to-eat chicken fried rice products. Other products included its Chicken Fried Rice, Japanese-Style Fried Rice, and Chicken Shu Mai.

The recalled vegetable fried rice products have best-by dates ranging from February 28 to November 19 and the UPC 00521482. They were distributed to stores in 43 states including Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

The FDA has classified the recall as Class II, meaning the product could cause "temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences."

Physical contaminants in food can pose serious health hazards to consumers, the FDA states. If accidentally ingested, contaminants such as glass could cause dental damage, laceration of the mouth or throat, laceration or perforation of the intestine, and other serious injuries.

While the frozen vegetable fried rice was removed from Trader Joe's stores earlier this month, you may have packages in your freezer. Do not use them. Discard the product or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

According to the March 3 notice from Trader Joe's, you can contact the grocery chain's customer relations at (626) 599-3817, Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific Time, or submit a product feedback form.
