In June, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a recall on cheese curds sold at Trader Joe's due to potential listeria contamination. In a recent report, the FDA has classified the recall as a Class I threat to consumers. Face Rock Creamery’s Vampire Slayer Garlic Cheddar Cheese Curds were packaged in a clear plastic container with a lid with a use-by date of August 29, 2025. The products have a UPC of 8 51222 00528 7 and lot numbers 20250519VS01 and 20250519VS02, according to the FDA. The recalled cheese curds were sold at Trader Joe’s stores in Northern California, including in Monterey, Fresno, and other locations, and in Northern Nevada, including in Carson City, Reno, and Sparks. The recall was initiated on June 19, 2025, and on July 7, 2025, it was classified as a Class I threat, meaning "a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death." Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you consumed the cheese and experienced any symptoms. Per the CDC, other people infected with listeria rarely become seriously ill and may experience symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting within 24 hours after eating the contaminated food. Symptoms usually last one to three days. Don't eat the product if you have it in your fridge. Throw it away or return it to a local Trader Joe’s for a refund.
