If you recently bought frozen shrimp, check your freezer. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recalled 64,000 pounds of shrimp sold nationwide due to the presence of undeclared sulfites.

The recalled shrimp came from Tri-Union Frozen Products, LLC, under the brand Chicken of the Sea Frozen Foods, based in El Segundo, California, and was distributed to Whole Foods Market locations across the country.

The recall was announced on May 6, 2025, and classified as a Class I recall on June 24, 2025. According to the FDA, a Class I recall means "a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death."

Sulfites can cause asthma attacks and allergic reactions, including wheezing, shortness of breath, coughing, sneezing, and skin reactions.
