Everyone has their favorite go-to grocery store, and if you live in the southern U.S., chances are your favorite place to shop is Publix. Known for its delicious deli sandwiches and exclusive regional items, the grocery store chain is a staple in the South.

Founded in 1930 in Winter Haven, Florida, Publix is the largest employee-owned company in the country. It currently has 1,411 store locations across eight states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

Fortunately for Publix fans, there are more locations coming soon. The company recently announced that it has plans to open additional stores in Kentucky and Virginia.

Publix opened its first Kentucky location last year and has since opened three additional stores in the state with locations in Louisville, Lexington, and Northern Kentucky. A spokesperson for Publix told decorvow that it has plans to open 10 additional stores in Kentucky, with two slated to open later this year. The new stores will be located in Louisville, Hardin Co., Lexington, Owensboro, and Northern Kentucky.

There is also a new store planned to open in Winchester, Virginia, close to the Washington Metropolitan Area, making this Publix's northernmost location to date once it opens. While there isn't an opening date set yet, a spokesperson for Publix confirmed that the developer has broken ground on the site for work to begin.

"Publix is proud to call Kentucky and Virginia home, and we will continue to bring the Publix difference to communities across those states," said media relations manager Jared Glover.
