The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall of single-serve peanut butter products due to possible plastic contamination.
The peanut butter was manufactured by Ventura Foods and distributed under multiple brand names across 40 states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.
The recall was triggered after inspectors discovered pieces of blue plastic in a production filter.
More than 22,000 cases of single-serve peanut butter and peanut butter-and-jelly combination packs are affected, including:
- Creamy peanut butter in 0.5- , 0.75-, and 1.12-ounce packets
- Single-serve pouches of creamy peanut butter (1.12 ounces) and strawberry jam (1 ounce)
- Single-serve pouches of creamy peanut butter (1.12 ounces) and grape jelly (1 ounce)
The products are sold under various brand names, including Flavor Fresh, House Recipe, and Katy’s Kitchen, and distributed by US Foods, DYMA Brands, Sysco Corporation, Independent Marketing Alliance, and Gordon Food Service. For a complete list of lot codes, check the FDA notice.

A spokesperson for Ventura Foods told Nexstar that the single-serve peanut butter products were not sold directly to consumers, but rather distributed to restaurants or retailers to be provided to consumers as a complementary condiment.
The recall is classified as Class II by the FDA, meaning the products may "cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences." If you have any of these packets in your home, discard them immediately.
