Beloved fabric and crafting chain Joann is back—sort of. Michaels recently announced two new "store within a store" shopping concepts with the debut of The Knit & Sew Shop and The Party Shop. Earlier this year, Michaels acquired the intellectual property and private label brands of Joann, which folded all of its stores after filing for bankruptcy. However, Michaels' plan to integrate the chain into its locations was unclear until now. Currently found in all stores across the U.S. and Canada, The Knit & Sew Shop, featuring the Joann and Michaels logos, offers an assortment of threads, sewing accessories, and yarn, with fabric also available in most locations. The selection includes Joann brands, such as customer favorite Big Twist, which hits shelves at the end of October. New services such as fabric cutting tables will also be available in more than 650 stores by mid-October. With the addition of the new concept, Michaels now carries fabric in over 840 stores, with plans to expand to more than 250 additional locations. It also offers over 95,000 options online, including licensed prints. Plus, the retailer now carries Gütermann threads and sewing machines from Singer and Brother. 8 Easy Crafts to Do at Home When You Need a Creative Spark The other new concept, The Party Shop at Michaels, allows shoppers to stock up on celebration supplies all in one place, filling a void left by the closing of Party City. From balloon bundles to a wide assortment of party supplies, the in-store shop offers 700 new products, including themed paper goods in motifs like rodeo and classic blue gingham. There's also a balloon bar where you can get customizable arrangements. "The launch of The Knit & Sew Shop and The Party Shop at Michaels is a transformative step forward on our mission to become the go-to destination for fueling creativity and celebration," David Boone, chief executive officer at Michaels, said in a statement.
