Check your fridge. Olympia Provisions of Portland, Ore., is recalling approximately 1,930 pounds of its ready-to-eat holiday kielbasa sausages because the product may be contaminated with foreign material, specifically metal, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The holiday kielbasa, which was produced on October 14, comes in 16-ounce vacuum-sealed plastic packages that contain one fully cooked “OLYMPIA PROVISIONS UNCURED HOLIDAY KIELBASA” with a “BEST IF USED BY” date of 02/19/26 printed on the side of the label. It also bears the establishment number “EST. 39928” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The item was shipped to retail locations in California, Oregon, and Washington, and was available nationwide through online sales.

So far, there have been no confirmed reports of injury related to the recalled product. Olympia Provisions received a consumer complaint about metal being found in the product, triggering the recall.

Physical contaminants in food can pose serious health hazards to consumers, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) states. If accidentally ingested, contaminants such as metal could cause dental damage, laceration of the mouth or throat, laceration or perforation of the intestine, and other serious injuries.

The recall has been classified as Class I, meaning it "involves a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death," according to the FSIS.
