Key Takeaways

  • Blue Ridge Beef Puppy Mix and Blue Ridge Beef Kitten Mix have been recalled due to salmonella and listeria contamination.
  • The recall was initiated after a customer reported that their pet became ill after consuming the product.

If you have a cat or dog at home, check their food bags. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a dog and cat food recall after a customer reported their pet became ill after consuming the product.

On April 10, 2025, Blue Ridge Beef voluntarily recalled 1,080 pounds of its Kitten Mix and 1,380 pounds of its Puppy Mix due to contamination with salmonella and listeria. The products were distributed to retail locations in Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin between January 3, 2025, to January 24, 2025. The affected products include:

  • Blue Ridge Beef Puppy Mix, 2 lb, Lot Numbers: N25 1230
  • Blue Ridge Beef Kitten Mix, 2lb, Lot Numbers: N26 0114

Following a customer complaint, the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets collected product samples on March 20, 2025. On April 1, 2025, the North Carolina Department of Agriculture notified the company that the samples tested positive for salmonella and listeria, according to the FDA.

Pets infected with salmonella or listeria may show symptoms of lethargy, diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. In some cases, affected pets may only show signs of decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain. Infected pets that are otherwise healthy can carry the bacteria and spread it to other animals or humans. If your pet consumed the recalled products and shows any of these symptoms, contact your veterinarian immediately.

It is also important to monitor yourself for nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever. If you experience any of these symptoms after contact with the affected product, contact your healthcare provider immediately.

The FDA urges pet owners not to feed the recalled product to pets or animals. Instead, return it to the retailer for proper destruction and a full refund. For more information, you can contact Blue Ridge Beef by calling 704-873-2072 or email [email protected].
