Pumpkin spice lattes are great, but have you tried a banana bread latte? This fall favorite has gone viral—and the best part is that you can make it at home.

Creators on Instagram and TikTok are sharing how they make banana bread coffee syrup and add it to their lattes. Some make iced versions, while others keep it warm and cozy—both are just as delicious. Like any latte, you can customize your milk or add other flavors, such as nutmeg, for extra aroma. One creator, @laceyglasley, shared her banana bread coffee syrup recipe on TikTok, garnering more than 55,000 views and 146 comments.

Many viewers expressed excitement about trying it themselves. "That must smell fantastic while it's simmering," one person wrote. Another wrote: "I always have brown bananas! I'm making this."

If you love making banana bread, you probably already have a few very ripe bananas in your kitchen, along with brown sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon. The coffee syrup recipe comes together quickly: Mash two ripe bananas and add them to a saucepan with 1 cup of water and 1 cup of brown sugar. Mix over medium-high heat. Once the mixture begins to simmer, add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and a dash of cinnamon.

When the syrup is done, strain it and pour it into a jar. Store it in the refrigerator for up to three weeks to enjoy each morning. Add a few spoonfuls to your coffee, adjusting for your preferred level of sweetness, pour in your frothed milk, stir, and enjoy!

For those who drink non-dairy milk, oat, almond, or soy milk works beautifully in this banana bread latte. This viral coffee syrup truly is fall in a cup.

While testing this recipe at home, I tried a hot latte with whole milk and then an iced latte with the same milk. Both were delicious, but I have to admit I preferred the iced version—it was cozy yet refreshing, the perfect way to start a crisp fall morning. Making simple coffee syrup at home during the holidays makes the morning ritual spent with family and friends that much sweeter. Give this viral recipe a try on a slow morning or the next time you host guests for brunch.
