Cats are known to love sunbathing, but this cat might have gone too far and ended up with a surprising new summer look.

Noorhan Griffiths, a cat owner, was amazed when her pet returned after a day spent in the sun. Sophie, her 7-year-old rescue cat, is normally black, but after sunbathing, she came back with lighter fur, resembling sun-kissed highlights typically achieved at a hair salon.

Still in shock, Griffiths shared a video of her cat's new look on TikTok, posting it on her account @lifewithsophieandme, with the caption: "My cat really said 'new season, new look'." The video quickly went viral, receiving over 384,100 views, more than 62,600 likes, and 678 comments—and counting.

The reactions to the video were light-hearted and filled with humor. Many viewers commented on the video, sharing that their black cats also turn color after prolonged sun exposure. "I only found out last summer that black cats can turn brown in the sun," one person wrote.

Others admired Sophie's new appearance. "God forbid a girl wants highlights for the summer," one person wrote. Griffiths replied, "Hahaha Right?! Everyone deserves their summer glow-up!" In an interview with Newsweek, Griffiths shared more about Sophie. "She absolutely adores sunbathing, lounging around our garden, and patrolling the boundary like it's her kingdom."
