  • Falcon Trading Company is recalling bulk organic black bean products nationwide after routine testing found pesticide residue in beans sourced from a certified organic handler.
  • The affected items were sold in bulk bins (not individual packages), and all lot numbers are included in the recall, though no illnesses have been reported so far.
  • While pesticide exposure from food is common, long-term exposure—even at low levels—may pose health risks, prompting agencies like the EPA and WHO to enforce residue limits.

Check your pantry. Falcon Trading Company, Inc., of Royal Oaks, California, is recalling some of its black bean products because they may be contaminated with pesticide residue, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The affected products include:

  • FTC item #003040 Black Organic, UPC 086700930403, 25-pound sack
  • SRF item #003056 Chili Bean Blend Organic, UPC 086700030561, 15-pound box
  • SRF item #013000 Soup Mix Organic, UPC 086700130001, 25-pound box

All lot numbers of the items are being recalled. The products were sold in bulk bins, not individually packaged. Falcon Trading Company's organic products, including black beans and soup mixes, are sold nationwide in the U.S. through various retail outlets and typically come in bulk.

The company discovered through routine testing that the organic black beans purchased from a certified organic handler contained pesticide residue, triggering the recall.

So far, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the black bean products. While pesticide exposure from food is common, long-term exposure to certain pesticides, even in small amounts, is a concern, with studies suggesting potential links to health issues like endocrine disruption, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA, the World Health Organization (WHO), and other agencies set maximum residue limits for food.
