Protein-packed products seem to be on everyone's grocery list these days—and for good reason. Protein can help support satiety and maintain muscle mass. But instead of simply relying on protein bars and powders, you can stock up on whole food options from stores such as Aldi that you can keep on hand when hunger hits.

To determine which Aldi snacks pack the most protein, we consulted three registered dietitians for their top recommendations. Whether you're trying to up your protein intake or simply looking for a satisfying snack, these are the best options to stock your fridge and pantry with.

  • Mia Syn, MS, RD, a registered dietitian and author of Mostly Plant-Based: 100 Delicious Plant-Forward Recipes Using 10 Ingredients or Less
  • Toby Amidor, MS, RD, an award-winning nutrition expert and best-selling author of Health Shots
  • Sherrie Shen, MS, RDN, CDN, a registered dietitian nutritionist

For a plant-based, protein-packed snack, add this edamame product to your cart, says registered dietitian Mia Syn, MS, RD. She notes that edamame is one of the few plant sources of complete protein. "It’s also rich in fiber and nutrients like iron and magnesium, making it a filling and balanced choice."

Award-winning nutrition expert Toby Amidor, MS, RD, agrees with this pick, saying the item provides a whopping 10 grams of protein per 1/2-cup serving. "It also provides 4 grams each of unsaturated fat and fiber. The trio of nutrients—protein, healthy fat, and fiber—helps keep you satisfied," she explains. She also suggests adding shelled edamame to pasta, rice, soup, and other dishes to help increase the protein, healthy fat, and fiber content.

A 1/2-cup serving of this low-fat plain cottage cheese contains 12 grams of protein, making it a filling snack option. Plus, Amidor says it has essential vitamins and minerals, including phosphorus, potassium, calcium, and vitamin B12. Phosphorus helps build and maintain strong bones and teeth and supports tissue growth. Potassium helps maintain blood pressure and supports heart health. It also helps regulate body fluid balance and maintain normal muscle function. Vitamin B12 supports a strong immune system and blood and nervous system function. For a sweeter snack, top the cottage cheese with berries or honey.

Plus, it's made with grass-fed beef that's free of antibiotics and hormones.

This lactose-free milk is ultra-filtered to remove milk sugar (also known as lactose), while retaining the protein, which is almost double that of traditional 2 percent milk, says Amidor. "Just like traditional cow's milk, ultra-filtered milk provides 13 essential nutrients, including protein (in this case, 14 grams per cup) to help with sustained energy, plus it helps build and maintain muscle mass and maintain a healthy immune system."

Milk also contains vitamin D, calcium, potassium, phosphorus, vitamin A, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, niacin, zinc, selenium, and iodine, each of which plays a vital role in various metabolic activities in the body—from bone health to immunity support to cognitive function, Amidor says.
