This Is the Most Popular Supermarket in the US, According to a New Study

There are many factors to consider when choosing a go-to supermarket. How organized it is, how friendly the employees are, and the sales offered are all things that may influence your shopping experience. A recent study by the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) analyzed these factors to find the most popular supermarket chains in the United States.

ACSI measures customer satisfaction across multiple industries. For this study, ACSI collected data from January to December 2024 and compared it to the previous year's data to help supermarkets improve customer satisfaction.

Some customer experience benchmarks ACSI analyzed include the convenience of store hours, ease of the pick-up process, quality of the mobile app, layout and cleanliness of the store, quality and the freshness of meat and produce, and the speed of the checkout process.

This year, Trader Joe's and Publix tied for first place, earning an overall satisfaction score of 84 out of 100. These supermarkets were closely followed by Wegmans (83) Sam's Club (83), Whole Foods (82), and H-E-B (82).

Per ACSI, Costco was the top supermarket among consumers in 2024 but fell by 5 percent for a score of 81 this year. Another store that has experienced notable declines in terms of customer satisfaction is BJ's. In 2025, the wholesale club scored 77 points, compared to 82 points in 2024.
