Halloween isn’t just for humans—our pets have become some of the best-dressed guests at parades, parties, and neighborhood trick-or-treat strolls. Much like our own wardrobes, pet costumes tend to follow trends, reflecting the zeitgeist and our own interests. This year, we received insight from a pet trend expert at Chewy, who confirmed which styles are slated to dominate in 2025.

If you’re still deciding how to dress your furry companion this Halloween season, consider shopping these top pet costume trends. Each one promises to turn heads (and earn plenty of photos) at every Halloween gathering.

Pickleball has been having a moment—and, after a summer spent on the court, your pet can finally get in on the fun via a sporty Halloween costume. "Costumes where it looks like pets are 'walking' continue to gain popularity," shared Chewy pet trend expert Whitney Reece. A hilarious standout is this "Pickle" Ball costume that, along with a grade-A pun, includes a little racket and ball attached to the faux arms. (Consider coordinating as your pup's doubles partner.)

Celebrity-Inspired Looks

From pop culture moments to iconic stage outfits, celebrity-inspired costumes always dominate the season when it comes to us humans. This year, they’re spilling over into the pet world in a big way.

Taylor Swift and her newly minted fiancé will no doubt inspire thousands of ensembles for humans and pets alike—but may we also suggest having your pet don a Martha-inspired costume? Picture it: your pup in a tailored “Martha” apron, complete with a tiny whisk or basket of faux vegetables. It’s chic, clever, and oh-so on-theme post-Martha Girl Summer.

Sweet Treats

Candy and dessert-themed costumes are another sweet spot this season. They embody the fun, indulgent spirit of Halloween. This too-cute banana split costume turns your pet into a walking sundae, complete with scoops of ice cream and a cherry on top. Pet parents also love how comfortable it is for their pups. "Let’s be honest: not every pet is thrilled about a full costume," says Reece. "Easy-to-put-on costumes such as our banana split are perfect for pets who prefer an alternative to more elaborate multi-piece costumes."

Food costumes are always in high demand because they’re colorful, Instagram-friendly, and universally understood. They also pair perfectly with themed family costumes: You can be the "Martha," serving up the sweets, in this case!

Animal-inspired costumes are always trending, but butterflies feel especially Martha-coded. Delicate, colorful, and a staple in gardens, butterflies lend their whimsy to household pets via this set of photo-ready wings. They're festive without being too fussy.

Remember what we said about animal-themed costumes being a perennial favorite? "There’s just something about seeing your pet dressed as other animals that pet parents can’t get enough of," says Reece. This stegosaurus is particular apt after another Jurassic World release over the summer.

Nothing draws attention quite like a wig, and this Halloween, expect to see plenty of dogs and cats rocking elaborate hairpieces. "Pet parents love the beauty parlor costume that makes their pet look like they’re enjoying a relaxing visit to the salon," says Reece. Wednesday-inspired wigs are also likely to be popular this season.
