Savory s'mores, an inventive way to enjoy charcuterie by the campfire, have redefined the traditional campfire treat. It's an ideal fireside snack for those who usually just have one sweet s'more and prefer to indulge in snacks like a curated charcuterie board. Creators all over Instagram and TikTok have shared their savory s'more experiences along with a wide variety of flavor pairings they've tried. One creator, @homemadeheather, shared her ideal savory s'more setup for camping, which received over 551,000 views. "We roast Babybel and brie cheese until they're melty, golden, and delicious," she says in the video. "Then we place them on a cracker with meat, pickles, some spicy jam—and oh my gosh, they're so good." Viewers filled the comments with other delicious suggestions for how they're making savory s'mores. "Wrap the cheese in prosciutto then roast!" one person wrote. Another wrote: "We roast halloumi! So good!" Many agreed that Babybel cheese is the best for savory s'mores due to its small size and convenient packaging. If you can't find Babybel, try another soft to medium cheese, such as Brie or Havarti. Whether you're having a fire outback or camping, simply assemble your favorite crackers, cheese, meats, and jams to include in your savory s'mores. Don't Miss Savory S'more Pairing Ideas The flavor pairing possibilities are truly endless with savory s'mores, but there are a few recommendations to ensure the best results. The key to any s'more—whether sweet or savory—is achieving the perfect crunchy-to-soft ratio with each bite. Choose a crunchy base like crostinis, round crackers, or mini toasts to sandwich in all of the good things. For the cheese, options like Babybel, Brie, Gouda, Fontina, and Harvarti work well because they give the right balance of gooeyness when roasted—without creating a mess. When it comes to choosing which meat, toppings, and spreads, you can add whatever you like. Think sweet and spicy jams, bread and butter pickles, apple slices, banana peppers, or roasted red peppers. Since the cheese is the only ingredient that needs roasting over the fire, you can add a variety of toppings to finish it off.
