Fortune Teller Costume We predict you will win every costume contest this year. Close This Halloween, take on a tarot card reader's disguise, complete with chains, medallions, and a deck of cards. The necklaces may look flashy, but they're just "costume" jewelry—you'll simply glue gold paper circles to a cord. The tattered skirt doesn't require any sewing; instead, cotton squares are tied together with twill tape. Ours is made from 10 fabric squares; add or subtract squares to adjust the size. Ahead, learn how to DIY this fortune teller costume. What You'll Need Materials Eleven 30-inch squares of cotton fabric, in floral 36-inch square of linen, fringe edges if desired, in lilac 5 feet of 1/2-inch twill tape in white Double-sided metallic gold craft paper (or glue two pieces together, back to back) Circle punches Gold cord Fabric glue Safety pin Hair clips or bobby pins Instructions Pinch the center of one square. Tie twill tape around the pinched end about 1 inch from the point, starting about 12 inches from the end of the tape. Repeat with remaining squares, spacing about 2 inches apart. Use a craft punch to cut circles from gold paper. Adhere to the gold cord with fabric glue. Make necklaces in different sizes (our longest is 36 inches) with different-size circles, plus two to embellish the head scarf. Use a variety of colored and textured gold paper for added depth and shine. We used shiny and matte gold paper in two different shades. Fold square in half on the diagonal. Wrap around head, with forehead in center of folded edge; gather in back and secure with a safety pin. Clip to hair. Tie the cotton skirt over another slightly shorter skirt; pair it with a long-sleeved white blouse and tights. Cinch leather belts around the waist (we layered a narrow belt over a wider one). Tie on necklaces, including forehead, and drape shawl over shoulders. Explore more: Holiday Planning & Ideas Halloween Halloween Projects & Crafts Adult Halloween Costumes
