Check your freezer. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert for a popular frozen pizza product sold at Trader Joe's. The not-ready-to-eat uncured pepperoni pizza product, which was imported from Italy, did not receive import re-inspection, triggering the alert. The item is no longer available for purchase in stores. The pizza was sold in 17.63-ounce cardboard boxes labeled "TRADER JOE’S UNCURED PEPPERONI PIZZA PRODUCT OF ITALY" with "MFG LOT: 06/16/25 BEST BY: 08/16/26" or "MFG LOT: 06/21/25 BEST BY 08/21/26" printed on the bottom of the package. The item was shipped to retail locations in California. You can find images of the affected products on the FSIS announcement here. According to the FSIS, shipments from outside the U.S. must be reinspected at an approved import inspection facility. "FSIS import inspectors first check the documents to assure the shipment is properly certified by the foreign country. Inspectors next examine each shipment for general condition and labeling and then conduct the inspection assignments," the alert states. So far, no illnesses or adverse reactions related to this product have been reported. If you bought the frozen pizza product, the FSIS urges you not to eat it.
