Key Points

  • The FDA has expanded its ongoing cinnamon recall to include Wise Wife brand cinnamon because it may be contaminated with elevated levels of lead.
  • The recalled 1.76-ounce jars were distributed in seven states between February 2024 and June 2025 and may still be in consumers' pantries.
  • While no illnesses have been reported, prolonged lead exposure poses serious health risks, including permanent neurological damage in children and kidney or cognitive issues in adults.

It's time to check your spice rack ... again. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has added another brand to its ongoing cinnamon recall because it has the potential to be contaminated with elevated levels of lead.

Wise Wife brand cinnamon, which is distributed by SLR Food Distribution Inc., was dispensed to retailers in New Jersey, New York, Florida, Maryland, Minnesota, Oklahoma, and Ohio between February 15, 2024, and June, 28, 2025. The product is packaged in a 1.76-ounce clear plastic jar with a black lid. It has the UPC 0 688474 302853, which is printed on the back label.

The recalled product is one of several ground cinnamon products that contain elevated levels of lead found though an analysis conducted by the FDA. The complete list of affected products can be found here.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with this product to date. Signs and symptoms of lead exposure are more likely with acute exposure to higher levels of lead or chronic exposure to lead. The affects of lead exposure depend on the amount and duration of exposure as well as age and body weight. A child exposed to lead for a protracted period may cause permanent damage to the central nervous system. For adults, chronic lead exposure is associated with kidney dysfunction, hypertension, and neurocognitive effects, the agency states.

The Wise Wife brand cinnamon is no longer being sold by SLR Food Distribution Inc., but the product may still be in your pantry. The FDA is urging consumers who have purchased this product to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Those with questions may contact the company at (516) 437-3782.
