They're not alone: Brands are also looking inward and mining their archives for inspiration, resurrecting beloved objects and bringing them back to the fore. Trusting in one's design DNA is old hat for Heath Ceramics. "The archive is something our team lives and works with every day," says design director Rosalie Wild. "It’s not tucked away in storage—it’s a constant presence in our factory and studio." That instinct has most recently manifested in a first-of-its-kind collaboration with Herman Miller. The limited-edition collection, dubbed Gathered, brings together two revered American design brands—and serves as a celebration of their devotion to craft. Our Favorite New Arrivals Coupe Dinner Bowl, $58 Studio Mug, $63 Candleholder, $33 Coupe Serving Platter, $190 Shallow Salad Bowl, $231 The first thing you'll notice about Gathered is its color palette. Kate Roethler, a CMF designer at Herman Miller's product studio, describes them as "energetic, yet down to earth." Layering the accent colors, she notes—like the bright yellows—develops a sense of "depth and dialogue." Heath even introduced two brand new glazes for the occasion: the baby pink Blossom and the earthy green Pesto. Another debut element in the collection is the dinner bowl—an idea pulled straight from Heath's history. It was based on "an early example from 1948," says Wild. "It felt particularly elegant and functional, and complements our current Coupe line." While everything else in the collection is only available for a limited time, the dinner bowl will remain a permanent fixture. What unites the collection, aside from its synergistic color palette, is its intention. "There's a sense of generosity in these pieces," says Catherine Bailey, co-owner of Heath. "They're designed to gather people around the table, and to share experiences. In that way, they feel timeless." It's a more shallow dish with an elegant profile that can fit into almost any tablescape. We love it in the new Blossom glaze, but you can snap it up in one of nine different colors. Studio Mug Credit: Heath Ceramics $63 at Hermanmiller.com You can never have too many mugs. If you're looking to add a new one to your collection, then Heath's latest is a great start. Made in California via tried-and-true ceramic traditions that have been passed down for decades, it will look just as beautiful on a floating shelf as it will on your desktop. Candleholder Credit: Heath Ceramics $33 at Hermanmiller.com If you're short on space or want to shop on a budget, then Heath's petite candleholder is a great option. It's pictured here in the moody Cranberry glaze, which adds a daring pop of color to the home. Try mixing and matching it with other items in the collection for even more drama.
