How to Make a Kid's Dinosaur Costume Revive this extinct species by running scales down a ski hood, tee, and leggings, and gluing press-on nail "claws" to gloves and sneakers. Close Credit: ADDIE JUELL This fun project proves that the mythical legend of Halloween lore—a costume that keeps kids warm, looks cool, and comes together in an afternoon from simple materials—truly does exist in the wild. Revive this extinct species by running scales (made from a green tarp and rope) down a ski hood, tee, and leggings, and gluing press-on nail "claws" to gloves and sneakers. It really is that easy! Fold the strip in half lengthwise and cut triangular scales into open edges. Unfold; attach the center of the tarp strip to the center of the hood by hand with a running stitch. Hot-glue scales together; let dry completely. Back and tail: Cut out a strip of tarp about 8 inches wide and at least as long as your dino is tall. Fold and cut scales into it as in step one. Cut the rope to the same length as the strip, then hot-glue the rope down the center of the strip. Hot-glue the sides of the tarp strip together over the rope; let dry completely. When ready to wear, safety-pin tail to the back of the T-shirt, leaving the last few feet loose so the tail can swish. Claws: Hot-glue pairs of press-on nails together to make them thicker. Then, hot-glue a pair onto each glove finger, and 4 pairs onto the tip of each sneaker; let it dry completely. To make it baby-friendly, you can sew or hot-glue the scales into a baby onesie. Make sure to use green or white felt for the scales and claws (and forego the press-on nails), as it will more comfortable for your little one.
