As the animal lover she is, Martha makes an effort to attend the Northeastern Poultry Congress in Springfield, Massachusetts each year. She enjoys this event for its wealth of knowledge about large fowl, waterfowl, turkeys, pigeons, pheasants, Guineas, and chickens. "I've been raising chickens for many years. Not only do I love keeping them for their fresh, delicious eggs, but I also enjoy learning about the different breeds, varieties, and their fun personalities," Martha wrote in her recent blog post.

This year, Martha took home five chickens to raise on her 152-acre farm in Bedford, New York—along with two pheasants and 30 eggs to hatch in her incubator.

Martha shared this exciting news on her Instagram, showing off one of her beautiful new chickens. "Here is one of my newest feathered residents - a bobtail cochin, known for its beautiful color and friendly, docile temperament," she captioned the post.

In addition to her five "feathered residents", Martha brought home a pair of peach golden pheasants. "They are so beautiful, I had to bring these home with me. Peach golden pheasants are a rare and special color mutation of the wild red golden pheasant," Martha wrote.

To ensure the chickens acclimate well to her farm, Martha keeps them in a separate enclosure before introducing them to the rest of the flock. Martha writes that she is looking forward to seeing all of her new chickens "mature and thrive" at her farm alongside the rest of her beautiful flock of birds.
